An immense Japanese colonial era sugar factory, now a museum and cultural park. Several colonial era dorm have been refurbished at the southern end of the complex. US bombing runs targeted this factory during World War 2 as it was being used to make fuel; keep an eye out for damage to some of the machinery on the outside, as well as a lake occupying a former crater. The weighing station is also pretty cool but easy to miss!
The sugar factory was also the earliest venue for watching movies in town. The precise venue is yet to be established, but it may have been the building currently housing the Hualien Sugar Museum (花蓮縣光復鄉托育資源中心).
