Established in 1943 as Karenkō Prefecture Yamato National School (花蓮港廳大和國民學校), this elementary school served the village of Dahe (大和) in Guangfu, Hualien. The campus was nearly destroyed by Typhoon Toraji (桃芝颱風) in 2001 and subsequently rebuilt, but a falling birthrate and rural depopulation steadily eroded enrolment until only twenty pupils remained. The school closed in August 2014 after 72 years of operation, with its last students transferred to nearby Dajin Elementary School (大進國小). The grounds have since seen partial reuse by community and educational groups, though much of the site appears seldom used and only cursorily maintained.
