A monument commemorating the 1925 Erlin Sugarcane Farmers Incident, when farmers organized against the Linbenyuan Sugar Company’s exploitative practices. On October 22, police and company workers attempted to forcibly harvest crops, sparking a confrontation that led to 93 arrests and 25 convictions. The incident catalyzed Taiwan’s island-wide farmers’ movement. Erected in 2005, the monument sits in an obscure patch of weeds far our into the countryside.
