One of many long-abandoned hotels around Shimen Reservoir (石門水庫), Yunxiao Hotel prospered alongside the nearby Asia Paradise (亞洲樂園) amusement park and went out of business not long after it closed, likely sometime around 1998. In 2005 a developer announced plans to demolish and rebuild it as a luxury hotel to rival the Lalu at Sun Moon Lake, but nothing came of it. Two decades on the building remains derelict, still nominally under the management of the Shimen Reservoir Administration Bureau (石門水庫管理局).
