Built in stages by the Zhuang family, pineapple growers who later prospered in yam and pig farming, this hilltop compound in Dashu is among the largest surviving Minnan quadrangle residences in southern Taiwan. The original Qing dynasty era courtyard was assembled by Tangshan craftsmen using Fujianese stone, then expanded twice under Japanese colonial rule. The Zhuang family briefly had the building struck from the historic building register, a first for Kaohsiung, before it was re-registered by the city in November 2022.
