A tunnel built by IJN engineers around 1943 to transport water to a purification plant just west of the hills at the margins of Dashu. This water was ultimately consumed by naval facilities along the coastline in Kaohsiung. The tunnel, which houses a metal pipeline, was lost for decades but recently rediscovered by hikers and history enthusiasts. A trail leading from Shuiguan Road (水管路) leads most of the way to the east entrance but you’ll have to cut right at some point to find it. Over the east entrance are the characters for pure and cool (清冽) while the west entrance is inscribed with crystal clear (明澄).
