Former projectionist and movie poster painter Chang Song-ru (張松如) has transformed his country farmhouse into a private museum of film memorabilia in Caotun, Nantou. He was born around 1953 and entered the film trade after dropping out of school at age 12, thereafter dedicating his life to the cinema industry. Initially he apprenticed at Dashijie Theater (大世界戲院) in Caotun, later going on to screen films all around Taiwan. After the decline of the industry in the 1970s he acquired a small vehicle and toured the country putting on “mosquito cinema” shows, screening films outdoors.
In 2024 he was subject of a book by Pan Qiao (潘樵) entitled Wandering Cinema (漂泊,電影,張松如), essentially his memoirs. The museum is only open by appointment as it is also Chang’s home. The sign out front reads National Film Museum (國家電影資料館).
