Designed by architect Huang Baoyu (黃寶瑜) and completed in 1970, this was the largest and last of Chiang Kai-shek’s many villas in Taiwan. Construction began in 1969, the same year CKS was involved in a car accident, fueling a persistent superstition about the site’s fengshui. In 1972 he collapsed into a coma here and was carried out to Veterans General Hospital, never returning. After his death in 1975 the KMT transformed the building into Yangming Library (陽明書屋), archives for party history. It was opened to the public in 1998. Visitors must take a Mandarin-only guided tour departing at specific times and taking approximately one hour.
