Originally established as a guesthouse and retreat by Taiwan Sugar Corporation in 1920. Crown Prince Hirohito visited the chateau on his 1923 tour of Taiwan (臺灣行啟). In 1949 it became the primary summer residence of Chiang Kai-shek until the completion of Zhongxing Guesthouse (中興賓館) in 1970. It was heavily damaged by arson in 2007 and restored by 2011. Also known as Grass Mountain First Residnece (草山第一賓館), Grass Mountain Old Residence (草山老官邸), and Houshan Official Residence (後山官邸). Not open to the public as of 2026.
