Remains of a former Japanese colonial industrial facility for extracting bromine from seawater, part of the war effort. It was one of several chemical production plants under the Southern Japan Chemical Industrial Co. Ltd. (南日本化學工業株式會社), established in 1939. The rest of this plant was demolished long ago but the towers were too large and dangerous, so they were left relatively intact.
