Established in June 1906 in Yilan Park (宜蘭公園) and moved to this location in 1919, this was the former site of the top-ranking Shinto shrine in Yilan County. As with most other prefectural shrines (縣社) this one was converted into a Chinese nationalist martyrs’ shrine (宜蘭縣忠烈祠), probably in the 1970s, but has since been partially restored. It was known as Giran-jinja in the original Japanese.
