A historic neighborhood in central Taipei formerly known as Taishōchō (大正町) in the Japanese colonial era. It was originally a residential area for Japanese officials and business-people built in the image of Kyoto. In the post-war era it gradually transformed into a center of Japanese-style nightlife, izakayas, and hostess bars. The name refers to the nine alleyways (or tiaotong) running east-west through the neighborhood.
