An offshoot of Guangfu Temple (廣福宮), jointly founded by members of the Guangdong and Fujian diaspora in 1726. As the Fujian community became more established in Yuanlin they built their own temple to venerate Mazu, goddess of seafarers, and the original shrine was renamed Guangning Temple. It is a regular stop on the Dajia Mazu pilgrimage route.
