A munitions factory originally established in Nanjing, China, in 1936. It relocated to Taipei after ROC forces fled the mainland in 1949, occupying a facility already built by the Japanese. The arsenal became an important hub for dozens of military dependents’ villages in what is now Xinyi. In 1980 it was relocated to Sanxia and the original facility was decommissioned and eventually demolished to make way for the Xinyi Planning Area, the business district now anchored by Taipei 101 and the Taipei World Trade Center.
