Xinhua Shrine (新化社) was originally established in front of Hutoupi (虎頭埤), a scenic pond in the hills just east of Xinhua proper, around 1927. A second-generation, unranked (無格社) Shinto shrine was completed in September 1943. It was mostly demolished after the war but one of the original torii (鳥居) still stands along with the divine bridge (神橋) that marked the passage to the main hall. Additional traces can be found a little further north along the lake shore (原新化神社齋館). The remnants of the shrine were designated historic buildings in 2014 and some effort has been undertaken to restore the site. Known in the original Japanese as Shinka Shrine.
