One of only a few well-preserved hōanden (奉安殿) remaining in Taiwan. It was likely built in the 1930s but the exact date seems lost in the mists of time. These Japanese colonial era structures were purpose-built to house the imperial rescript on education and other objects of reverence used during annual ceremonies at schools around the colony. Nearly all were destroyed sometime after the war, and usually by the late 1970s, but this one survived intact. It was formally known as Harashinka hōanden in Japanese.
