Former site of the Taibai Building (太白樓), a striking three-storey white mansion built around 1964 on the wooded hillside on the west bank of Bitan, below the Bitan Amusement Park in Xindian. Originally named Lanbi Building (攬碧樓), it was a private residence of the Yang family, with a rooftop terrace overlooking the lake. The family moved out in the early 1970s after the elder owner passed away, and decades of neglect gave the building a grim appearance and a reputation as one of Taiwan’s most haunted houses. As the property sat on state-owned forestry land, the Forestry Bureau pushed for its removal from 2007 onward. A bid for heritage designation in 2015 was rejected and the building was demolished that November.
