Xindian Public School (新店公學校) was founded in 1898; from 1926 onward, 22 staff dormitories were built in batches around the campus, the last completed in 1967. Most are wooden Japanese-style houses now in various states of disrepair. Two units on Lane 65 were recovered by the city and designated historic buildings; the remainder are either demolished, converted into other buildings, or still occupied by retired teachers.
