Established in May 1964 on Wuchang Street (武昌街), more generally known as Cinema Street, in the popular entertainment district of Ximending. It was built by Indonesian Chinese entrepreneur Chen Weicheng (陳渭成) and associates who purchased the land from Zhouchen Yushu (周陳玉樹), owner of the nearby Lesheng Theatre. It continues to operate today as In89 Hoover Digital Cinema (In89豪華數位影城), the flagship cinema for the In89 chain, which gets its name from the address number of the original building. “Hoover Theatre” is the official romanization of the name.
