Daxi Elementary School Neidaxi Branch (大溪國小內大溪分校) - Spectral Codex

The ruins of a branch of Daxi Elementary School established in 1969 to serve the mountain settlement of Neidaxi, on the middle and upper reaches of the Daxi River (大溪川) in the remote northeastern corner of Toucheng, Yilan. It offered only the first four grades; students in the fifth and sixth grades walked down to the main campus on the coast or boarded with relatives. Residents carried the steel and concrete for this replacement campus up the mountain on their backs, but flooding and a typhoon in 1974 drove the village downstream to present-day Daxi, and the branch school was abolished within a few years. The site is only accessible along a multi-hour hiking trail.
