Dashulin Flood Detention Basin was built to relieve chronic flooding along Dongmen Creek (東門溪) behind Taoyuan Railway Station, the first phase completed in September 2018 and the second in January 2024 at a combined cost of around NT$500 million. Basins A and C are sunken parkland, while B, nine meters deep and promoted as the Secret Water Base (水の秘密基地), holds thirty columns lit by LEDs and daylight from five polygonal skylights; together the three store 118,000 cubic meters of water. Free guided tours of the underground chamber run on Thursdays and Saturdays outside the May to November flood season, by appointment only.
