Former red-light district established in the 1920s. A canal running along what is now Bao’an Street divided the district into Japanese and Taiwanese sections, with the Japanese area to the north. The system continued into the post-war period, and the last officially licensed brothel in the district quietly closed in 2015. Zhenhua Garden (真花園), The last century-old brothel at 19 Kangle Road (康樂街19號), was demolished in 2004.
