A Japanese colonial era police substation beside Shuili Railway Station (水里車站), built around 1939. Standing at the gateway to the central mountains, it policed the surrounding timber country and issued the mountain entry permits (入山證) once required to travel into the Indigenous highlands. The substation relocated in 2002, leaving the building and its dormitories empty. Residents later campaigned for its preservation, but the heritage case was shelved over the development restrictions designation would impose and the cost of repairs; as of 2022 the building carried no protection, despite county pledges to study its reuse.
