A company housing district (社宅街) built to accommodate staff of the nearby Shuilikeng Power Plant (水里坑發電所), part of the Sun Moon Lake Hydroelectric Project. Rather than compete for scarce land in Shuili proper, the authorities sited it on Erping (二坪), a terrace above the town. The settlement was greatly expanded in the 1980s, when new pumped-storage plants were built and the older Menpaitan (門牌潭) housing was cleared. Several reinforced concrete blocks were damaged and rebuilt after the 921 Earthquake. No discernible trace of the original colonial era settlement remains; the best way to experience anything of this old community is likely the Erping Ice Shop (二坪冰店), a popsicle stand descended from the Taipower workers’ welfare society.
