An oblique view of the old theater, its nameplate visible at the top of the building.
A golden age cinema active from around 1963 to the early 1970s. It was later converted into residences but the original sign is still visible on top of the building. Wanlijie is an old name for this part of Shanhua, Tainan.
Without the sign it wouldn’t look all that different from any other shophouse on this market street.
I am a web application developer, photojournalist, urban explorer, and history enthusiast passionate about the open web and documenting my experiences on this planet. This project was founded in the early 2010s and has evolved into a sort of personal Wikipedia of places that interest me (and often the photographs I’ve taken there). I’m originally from Toronto, Canada, but spend most of my time residing in Taiwan.
