The crumbling ruins of an old fort on top of Wukengshan can still be seen along the hiking trail (總督嶺步道) running through here. It might have been a Qing dynasty era defensive position built during the Sino-French War and later improved by the Japanese, but it seems likely to have been abandoned early in the 20th century as military positions in the Keelung area were consolidated.
