Established in 1947 to meet the demand for more traditional opera venues in Hsinchu City after Xinshijie Theater began to focus on film. It was built inside a lumberyard and had a capacity of 900. In the mid-1960s it began screening Taiwanese language films, but the facilities were basic, and it struggled to attract customers with so many more modern theaters operating in Hsinchu City. It closed around 1969 and was subsequently demolished. The owners then opened Zhulian Theater (竹連戲院) on the other side of town.
