A small stone stele erected in May 1935 to commemorate the 83 villagers of Shiweiqiang (石圍牆), now Shiqiang Village (石牆村), who perished in the 1935 Hsinchu-Taichung Earthquake. The disaster was especially severe here as the morning of the quake coincided with a Mazu pilgrimage festival, drawing migrant workers home. All but one of the 142 households in this village collapsed. The inscription was composed by local writer Chen Hanchu (陳漢初), whose own younger brother was among the dead. The surrounding plot was redeveloped as a small memorial park in 1999.
