Established in 1874 as Xingxiu Hall (行修堂), a Longhua (龍華) sect zhaitang (齋堂), or fasting hall, of the Zhaijiao (齋教) folk religion. Situated in the hills of Dakeng Village (大坑村) in Gongguan, Miaoli, it was absorbed into mainstream Japanese Buddhism during the colonial period and eventually rebuilt in a more visibly Japanese-influenced style, with the present structure dating to a 1964 reconstruction. The Gongguan Earthquake Monument stands to the left of the temple entrance, reached by climbing the stairs and walking the loop behind the main hall.
