A Buddhist monastery and museum complex in the hills of Dashu, Kaohsiung, headquarters of the Fo Guang Shan order founded here by the monk Hsing Yun (星雲) in 1967. The Buddha Museum beside the original monastery opened in 2011 to enshrine a tooth relic of the Buddha, given by a Tibetan lama who had guarded it for nearly thirty years. Its main hall stands at the end of an axis lined with eight seven-storey pagodas, beneath a seated bronze Buddha that rises 108 meters with its base.
