This coastal area was a minor salt production site in the late Qing dynasty era. It was registered by the incoming Japanese authorities in 1901 but the salt fields were destroyed in a flood around 1904. Nowadays there is still some evidence of the former salt fields in satellite view, but it might be difficult to discern on the ground.
