A hilly outcrop overlooking Changhua City transformed into a popular tourist attraction with a huge Buddhist statue and temple (八卦山大佛寺). The hollow statue of the Buddha was the largest in Southeast Asia when it was completed in 1961. It is approximately 23 meters tall and contains several floors depicting scenes from Buddhist mythology. It has long been the most iconic landmark in Changhua County and was recognized for its heritage value in 2002.
