Originally established in the Japanese colonial era to house patients at a nearby hospital. In the post-war era it was appropriated for use by dependents of military personnel working in the Beitou Branch of the Tri-Services Hospital (三軍總醫院北投分院). Interest in preserving the village arose in the 1990s and it was ultimately recognized for its heritage value in 2011. Since then it has been lightly restored and opened to the public. Officially known as Heart Village in English.
