The oldest hydroelectric power plant in eastern Taiwan, built in 1941–1942 during the Japanese colonial era. Originally named Danan Power Plant (大南發電廠), it was renamed Dongxing in 1969 after the village name was changed following a series of natural disasters. Still operational today with its original wooden structures intact, it is the smallest commercially operating power plant in Taiwan and was designated a historic building in 2005. Despite this, it does not appear to be open to the public without special arrangements.
