Guishan Power Plant (龜山發電廠) in Xindian was the first hydroelectric power station in Taiwan. Although it was awarded heritage status in 2007 it later collapsed and only the concrete base of the structure remains. Without there being much of a reason to visit the site it is slowly being reclaimed by nature.
The former foundation of the first hydroelectric power plant in Taiwan.
This weathered plaque provides some information and historic photographs of the old power plant.
I am a web application developer, photojournalist, urban explorer, and history enthusiast passionate about the open web and documenting my experiences on this planet. This project was founded in the early 2010s and has evolved into a sort of personal Wikipedia of places that interest me (and often the photographs I’ve taken there). I’m originally from Toronto, Canada, but spend most of my time residing in Taiwan.
