Established in 1917 as a branch of a restaurant of the same name founded in Ximending in 1897. It embraced the leisurely lifestyle of the riverside and offered a variety of recreational activities in addition to its culinary offerings. During World War 2 it became a site for wounded to rest and for kamikaze pilots to drink prior to flying out of the nearby airbase. In the post-war tumult it was repurposed for use as residential space. It was later a hub for the Taiwanese literary scene. After suffering a fire in 1994 most residents moved out and it was eventually recognized for its heritage value in 2004 and restored.
