The old residence from the street. It is still occupied as of 2026.
A modest Japanese colonial era residence in central Qingshui. Cai Nianheng (蔡年亨) was a local businessman and politician who served as the mayor of Qingshui beginning in 1933. He was devoted to the cause of Taiwanese self-determination but passed away from illness in 1944. Nowadays the house remains a private residence but it is surprisingly well-maintained. In 2018 the roofing tile was replaced, and as of 2026 the house appears to be in good condition. Additionally, there are some old wooden outbuildings to the right side of the property with an uncertain connection to the main house.
The view from the front gate.
A neatly-manicured garden and one of the distinctive round windows.
An oblique view of the main house.
One of two wooden outbuildings to the right side of the property.

This project was founded in the early 2010s and has evolved into a sort of personal Wikipedia of places that interest me (and often the photographs I’ve taken there). I’m originally from Toronto, Canada, but spend most of my time residing in Taiwan.
