A memorial to Gao Shichuan (高施傳, 1914–1970), a Taiwan Railway crossing guard who died at the Jinxi Street (錦西街) level crossing on the old Tamsui Line (淡水線). On the evening of 31 October 1970 a bus carrying more than twenty passengers became stuck on the crossing as a train approached; Gao tore the netting free to let it escape but was himself struck and killed in the process. A bust sculpted by Lin Muchuan (林木川) was unveiled in June 1971, with an inscription by Vice President Yen Chia-kan (嚴家淦). It now stands in front of Wenchang Temple (文昌宮) near Shuanglian Station, along the former railway line that has since been buried and replaced by the MRT system.
