Dahu (大湖), a spring-fed lake in Yuanshan, was developed into a scenic recreation area from 1997 under Yilan Irrigation Association (宜蘭農田水利會), which leased it to the Dahu Recreation Company (大湖育樂公司) to run a restaurant and paddle-boat concessions. In 2012 the association declined to renew the lease, citing a policy of returning the lake to public use. The operator, Chen Cheng-kuang (陳正光), refused to vacate, and the dispute went to civil litigation that ended in the association’s favour at the Supreme Court in 2017. Forced repossession followed in 2019, after which the site underwent remediation by the county government, with plans to reopen as a scenic area in 2026.
