Hengshan Military Base

An army camp next to Mianqianpu Community (面前埔社區) in Yanchao completed in 1987; former conscripts recall an airborne artillery battalion (獨立71旅砲兵營) here, and later a chemical corps unit (39化兵群) and the medical battalion (衛生營) of the Fourth Field Support Command (第四後勤指揮部), which relocated to Qishan in 2003 and left the camp idle for more than a decade. The Kaohsiung Urban Development Bureau (高雄市都市發展局) took the site over in 2016 and has repaired it in stages together with Shu-Te University of Science and Technology (樹德科技大學), whose staff and students now run woodworking, dyeing, ceramics, and metalworking studios in the old barracks, alongside a community library and a daycare service. The reinforced brick buildings retain their stonewashed exteriors, cement tile roofs, and timber roof trusses. The complex is now known as Hengshan Co-Creation Base (橫山共創基地).
