Established in the Japanese colonial era as Shinshō-za (新莊座) or Shinshō-gekijō (新莊劇場), likely in 1931. It was constructed next to Guangfu Temple. After the war it was mainly known for screening Taiwanese language films and seemingly operated into the 1970s. Eventually it was demolished, but the date is unclear. The former site of the theater is next to a century-old shop selling malt sugar (翁裕美麥芽糖).
