Xinpu Guanghe Temple (新埔廣和宮) - Spectral Codex
新埔廣和宮

A Sanshan Guowang (三山國王) temple founded in 1860, burned by Japanese forces during the Yiwei War in 1895, and rebuilt in 1902. The temple is notable for its duichangzuo (對場作) or “rival-side” craftsmanship, where competing artisans worked on opposite sides, and 1928 Jiaozhi pottery by Quanzhou master Su Yangshui. Historically famous for its Lantern Festival “cursing street” tradition, where rival neighborhood factions would publicly mock each other through satirical poetry until the practice was banned in 1950. Nowadays it is still known for its intricate paintings, which portray unusually buxom goddesses in mythological scenes.
