Completed in November 1939, this sprawling Shinto shrine was constructed on what was then the northern outskirts of town. The shrine was converted into a Chinese Martyrs’ Shrine (新營忠烈祠) sometime after the war, and this in turn was relocated in 1976 to make space for Xinying Hospital (衛生福利部新營醫院). A replica of the bronze horse (銅馬) from the shrine is now displayed in the traffic circle in front of Xinying First Market (新營第一市場) while one of the originals can be seen in Xinying Arts Park (新營美術園區). It was known as Shinyin-jinja in the original Japanese.
