Lin Tongxi Residence

Completed in Datan Village (大潭村), Xingang, in 1926, this seven-bay sanheyuan combines traditional Minnan architecture with the Japanese and Western elements fashionable at the time, including coloured majolica tiles. Three brothers of the Lin family built it with wealth earned from sugarcane grown on leased land. It takes its name from Lin Tongxi (林通喜), born in 1905, who served as a neighbourhood head during the Japanese colonial era and as a county councillor after the war. Descendants still live here and the house is not open to the public.
