Completed in the late 1880s or early 1990s by imperial scholar Lin Weichao (林維朝). It was expanded over subsequent decades as the Lin family prospered under Japanese colonial rule. The residence was severely damaged in the 921 Earthquake and part of the roof collapsed in 2014. Lin’s descendants personally funded restoration work in the late 2010s and early 2020s; the property does not seem to be officially recognized for its heritage value. The Lin family remains highly influential in Taiwanese culture; Weichao’s great-grandson is Lin Hwai-min (林懷民), founder of Cloud Gate Dance Theater (雲門舞集), for example.
