This stone obelisk commemorates the thirteen workers, seven Japanese and six Taiwanese, killed in the 1936 “golden gourd” explosion (金瓜大爆炸) at the Erjie Paper Mill (二結紙廠), where an overheated bagasse digester boiled dry and burst under pressure. Erected in 1938 some 300 metres from the blast site in Shangsi Village (上四村), it records the victims’ names, ages, and origins on its right face. The paper company maintained the rites until its dissolution in 2001, after which local residents revived offerings during Ghost Month beginning in 2006. It was designated a county monument in 2015.
