The main building of the former Tainan Normal School (臺灣總督府臺南師範學校), completed in 1922 and known as the “Red Building” (紅樓) for its red brick construction. The roof was nearly destroyed by shelling in 1945 and rebuilt in 1947. The school, originally established in 1899, has since been reorganized several times and is now National University of Tainan (國立臺南大學). In front of the building stands a Ryukyu pine planted by Crown Prince Hirohito during his 1923 tour of Taiwan.
