A mountain lodge at 2,860 meters on the Nenggao Crossing Trail in Ren’ai, Nantou, occupying the site of Nōkō Police Garrison (能高駐在所). Built of cypress in 1918 to support road maintenance and postal relay, the garrison was known as the “cypress palace” (檜木御殿) for its comforts. It was set ablaze in the Wushe Incident (霧社事件), rebuilt in 1931, and later housed a Taipower line maintenance station until fire destroyed it in 1986. A corrugated metal hut followed in 1993, and the present two-storey steel building, completed by the Forestry Bureau (林務局) in 2012, runs on solar power and sleeps 88 hikers alongside a campground.
