The north entrance to the railway tunnel from the approach.
A former tunnel built in the Japanese colonial era for the railway connecting Puli to Checheng in Shuili. It was superseded by the Shuitou Tunnel a short distance to the east but is still in good condition. It was also known as Gupoyu Tunnel (姑婆芋隧道).
A closer look at the name over the north entrance.
The original brickwork is more evident from the south entrance.
I am a web application developer, photojournalist, urban explorer, and history enthusiast passionate about the open web and documenting my experiences on this planet. This project was founded in the early 2010s and has evolved into a sort of personal Wikipedia of places that interest me (and often the photographs I’ve taken there). I’m originally from Toronto, Canada, but spend most of my time residing in Taiwan.
