A predominantly Hakka commercial strip on the southern margins of Hukou. Its distinctive red brick shophouses were mostly laid out by a local branch of the Luo family in 1916 to capitalize on traffic from the adjacent Dahukou Railway Station. The 1929 rerouting of the Western Trunk Line west of Yangmei diverted all rail traffic to a new station further north, and the resulting commercial decline inadvertently preserved the street’s Taishō era streetscape for future generations to appreciate.
